There are several ways to obtain a temporary work permit in Canada. Canada being a country that seeks constant growth and desires to obtain the best talent at the international level. Canada has several programs allowing a foreign worker to be hired and come to work for a Canadian company. Here are the two main programs that allow a Canadian employer to hire a foreign worker:
The Temporary Foreign Worker Program;
The International Mobility program.
TEMPORARY FOREIGN WORKER PROGRAM (TFWP)
Under the TFWP, the employer must obtain a positive Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Human Resources and Skills Development Canada in order to hire a foreign worker. This process requires the employer to demonstrate that there is a shortage of qualified individuals for the position requested. He must demonstrate to the competent authorities the need to hire a foreign worker. It is important to be familiar with the requirements before submitting such a request so that it is not refused.
INTERNATIONAL MOBILITY PROGRAM
In some cases, the company may be exempted from obtaining a Labor Market Impact Assessment if the foreign worker qualifies in one of the specific categories where there is an exemption from EITM provided by the law. For example, if the foreign worker is a citizen of a country that has an agreement with Canada for temporary immigration, such as NAFTA. There is a possibility that he can obtain a work permit without having to demonstrate the lack of qualified labour.
OTHER PROGRAMS
Several other programs are available, depending on the qualifications of the worker. In some cases, the foreign worker will have to obtain a temporary resident visa from a Canadian consulate abroad before coming to Canada, if his country of residence or citizenship requires it before he can come to work in Canada.
